The Seeing Eyes Community Eye Care Outreach – Nakasongola District
The Seeing Eyes successfully conducted a community eye care outreach in Nakasongola District, serving communities at Lwampanga Landing Site, Zengebe, Migyera, Nakitoma Market, Nakasongola Health Centre IV, Katugo, and Kakooga. The outreach revealed a significant burden of preventable and treatable eye conditions, underscoring the urgent need for accessible eye care services across the district.
As part of strengthening community engagement and promoting eye health awareness, a strategic partnership was established with Radio UBC Buruli to host regular talk shows and community sensitization programs. This collaboration will help educate the public on the prevention of avoidable blindness, the importance of early eye examinations, and the availability of treatment services.
The outreach touched the lives of many individuals who received eye screening, treatment, referrals, and health education. Inspired by the resilience and determination that characterized the NRA bush war in the Lower Triangle, The Seeing Eyes has officially launched a sustained campaign against avoidable blindness in Nakasongola District. This marks the beginning of a long-term commitment to restoring sight, improving livelihoods, and ensuring that no one is left behind because of preventable vision loss.
